AkzoNobel Introduces FDA-Compliant Linings for North American Rail Industry

The linings, which are fully compliant with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) (Silver Spring, Maryland) regulations, are aimed at supporting the North American rail industry’s increasing environmental requirements and protective demands on rail cars, AkzoNobel says.

Whether coating new rail cars, or providing maintenance to existing fleets, the FDA-compliant linings are designed to protect the interiors of tanker and hopper cars from corrosion and abrasion while transporting dry and wet bulk foods, oils and liquids, and plastic pellets.

The Enviroline 2900LV is ideal for both liquid and dry cargoes, the company says. The high solids, ultra-low VOC lining offers strong chemical resistance, and it can be easily applied in a single coat with fast cure times.

Meanwhile, the Enviroline 2405 provides high flexibility and low surface energy for enhanced cargo release. The high solids, ultra-low VOC coating is suitable for both liquid and dry cargoes, and it can be applied in a single coat, using single leg equipment.

“For more than a decade, AkzoNobel’s International protective coatings brand has served the North American rail industry with high performance protective coatings, linings, and finishes that can stand up to a wide variety of cargoes and conditions,” says Larry Haack, manager of AkzoNobel’s protective coatings and linings business in North America.

“The new FDA-compliant product offerings represent AkzoNobel’s ongoing commitment to providing this market the coatings technologies they need to protect equipment assets, ensure compliance, extend maintenance lifecycles, and enhance productivity,” Haack adds.

Drawing on AkzoNobel’s expertise in product research, development, and testing, the International brand offers the rail industry a full range of products including chemical resistant linings, epoxies, polyurethanes, polysiloxanes, polyaspartics, and specialty coatings for interior and exterior applications.

In addition, customers can rely on a dedicated product supply chain to help minimize delays, AkzoNobel says.
