Lubrizol Advanced Materials Europe (Brussels, Belgium) is partnering with GF DEKA (Dautphetal, Germany) and SIMONA (Kirn, Germany) to deliver a new, post-chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) welding rod.
The rod is available in 3-mm and 4-mm diameters, and it can be obtained from GF DEKA and SIMONA through their distribution channels.
“Legal requirements and the desire for further product improvement have contributed to the development of a new generation of CPVC welding rod,” the partners say in a press release.
Semi-finished products made from CPVC have been a key part of the material choice for sheets, pipes, and fittings for 40 years, according to the partners, who add that CPVC products are especially important for the safe transport of corrosive media. Key technologies for connecting semi-finished products in thermoplastics and dual laminates include rod welding and extrusion welding.
The latest welding rod has undergone both short- and long-term laboratory and field testing during the past four years to compare and evaluate its performance relative to other CPVC rods.
“As a result of these combined efforts, a new and well-defined CPVC welding rod can now be offered to the market,” the partners say.
The new rod offers genuine system behavior with regard to corrosion resistance; has better compatibility with sheets and pipes used in the industry; matches and exceeds the performance of other CPVC welding rod products when in contact with wet chlorine and anolyte; and comes with clear product specifications.
The rod’s harmonized color code with sheet and pipe helps to avoid confusion in customer specifications.
Additional technical documentation for the new CPVC welding rod is available upon request from each of the three partners.
