U.S. Navy Contracts Wyle Laboratories to Prevent, Treat Corrosion

Wyle Laboratories (El Segundo, California) is being awarded a contract from the U.S. Navy (Washington, DC) worth $41.8 million to provide engineering and technical services in support of various naval aviation weapons systems and platforms to prevent and treat corrosion. 

Services to be provided include proficiency training, technical guidance, and advice to resolve unusually complex technical problems, with a goal of mitigating corrosion throughout the sustainment lifecycle.

The work is expected to be completed by September 2021, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) (Arlington, Virginia) says. Fiscal 2016 operations and maintenance funds in the amount of $500,265 were obligated at the time of the award, all of which will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. 

Under the contract, the majority of the work will be performed in Oceana, Virginia (11%); Lemoore, California (9%); Norfolk, Virginia (7%); North Island, California (7%); Cherry Point, North Carolina (5%); Jacksonville, Florida (5%); Miramar, California (5%); New River, North Carolina (5%); Whidbey Island, Washington (5%); and Beaufort, South Carolina (5%).

This contract was competitively procured via an electronic request for proposals, the DoD says, adding that four offers were received. The Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (China Lake, California) was the contracting activity.
