NACE International Seeks Speakers for New Technical Webcast Series

The Australasian Corrosion Association (ACA) (Blackburn, Victoria, Australia) is presenting the Corrosion & Prevention 2017 (C&P 2017) conference and trade show in November as part of an effort to have asset owners and professionals in the corrosion industry network with colleagues and peers, as well as learn new information related to corrosion prevention, controls, and repair.

The ACA is an organization that works with academia and industry throughout the Australasia region to research all aspects of corrosion to support best practices in corrosion management.

The event will be held from November 12-15, 2017, at the new International Convention Centre (ICC) in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The event showcases and promotes all efforts to minimize the impact of corrosion, which costs industry and governments around the world billions of dollars each year to mitigate and repair, the ACA says.

The conference, a four-day gathering of world experts on corrosion mitigation, is described by the ACA as an important source of the latest information concerning corrosion prevention and management. It includes a program of keynote presentations and technical papers under a range of industry streams, integrated with an exhibition to showcase the products and services of the corrosion mitigation industry.

Industry experts will deliver six plenary addresses and 83 papers across four to five technical streams. Plenary topics cover corrosion management of reinforced concrete; the synergism of electrochemical and mechanical factors in materials degradation; corrosion of emerging materials; the advantages of heat resistant composites; and coatings for corrosion prevention.

The 2017 Thompson Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Maria Forsyth, a professor and chair of electromaterials and corrosion sciences at Deakin University (Geelong, Victoria, Australia). Her lecture—titled “Controlling Corrosion with Chemistry”—will explain how using chemistry to control corrosion ranges from designing metallic coatings through to creating oxides on a metal substrate or protective polymeric coatings and using chemical additives in a given environment to produce inhibited surfaces.

The Thompson Memorial Lecture commemorates the work of corrosion science pioneer, P.F. Thompson, and it has been delivered every year at the ACA's annual conference since 1951.

Elsewhere, diverse technical streams at the conference will showcase the latest developments in corrosion prevention, management, and mitigation. The broad themes of the technical seminars are coatings; concrete and asset management; the oil, gas, and offshore industry; and research. Topics covered will range from fundamental corrosion science to hands-on application including advances in sensing and monitoring; asset management; cathodic protection; concrete corrosion and repair; corrosion mechanisms, modelling, and prediction; materials selection and design; and protective coatings.

More than 500 delegates are expected to attend the C&P 2017 event from industries including protective coatings, water, defense, building and construction, mining, oil and gas, cathodic protection, power, and more. Registration for the conference is still available.
