The EcoClean biodegradable scale and rust remover from Cortec Corp. (St. Paul, Minnesota) is now a certified bio-based product from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) (Washington, DC). As such, the product is now certified by a third party to contain 100% bio-based content.

The product also exceeds minimum USDA requirements for metal cleaners and corrosion removers qualified for federal purchasing under the USDA’s BioPreferred program.

In addition to the bio-based qualifications, the remover is effective and easy to use, according to the company. It is a fast-acting product for dissolving heavy scale, corrosion, and naturally occurring oxides off metals.

The company explains that creating clean surfaces is important for improving flow in scale-obstructed water or drainage pipes and heat-transfer efficiency on heat exchanger equipment. The powerful corrosion inhibitors contained in the scale remover can also protect treated metals from flash rust.

The remover is safe to use with multiple metals, including iron, carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum, magnesium, and various alloys, and it is available in an easy-to-ship powder form and a ready-to-use liquid form.
