John Fletcher, technical support manager for Elcometer (Manchester, United Kingdom), has agreed to serve a three-year term on the board of directors for industry standards organization ASTM International (West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania).
Fletcher is based in Manchester, but he represents Elcometer at ASTM meetings.
Elcometer is a world leader in the design, manufacture, and supply of coating and concrete inspection equipment, rebar, metal detection, and ultrasonic nondestructive testing (NDT).
Fletcher has worked with Elcometer since 1982, and previously served as a development group leader at electronic components manufacturer Mullard (Hazel Grove) Ltd. for 13 years.
Fletcher holds a higher national certificate (HNC) in electronics from Stockport Technical School (Stockport, United Kingdom) and an industrial management degree from Manchester Polytechnic (Manchester, United Kingdom), now known as Manchester Metropolitan University.
Fletcher is also a Chartered Scientist (CSci), as awarded by the U.K.’s Science Council (London, United Kingdom).
A member of ASTM International since 2007, Fletcher is currently serving as vice chairman of the group’s committee on paint and related coatings, materials, and applications (D01).
Outside ASTM International, Fletcher is a Fellow of the Institute of Corrosion (Northampton, United Kingdom), having served as president from 2015 to 2016. He is also a member of NACE International and The Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC) (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania).
ASTM’s board of directors is made up of 25 leaders from an array of companies, associations, and government bodies. Several members, including Fletcher, are based outside of the United States.
