Ultrasonic Pipeline Inspection Provider Upgrades Methodology

Ultrasonic pipeline inspection provider NDT Global (Dublin, Ireland) announced an upgrade to its Atlas UG inspection service.

The approach offers less conservative assessments by using the depth and length of the dent as well as the actual shape of the dent. This gives pipeline operators parameters for dent prioritization and dent fatigue life assessment.

As a whole, the system offers accurate and reliable ultrasonic inline inspection data by combining corrosion or crack assessment with ultrasonic-based geometry measurement.

“At NDT Global, we are always looking for new ways to ensure we are delivering pipeline operators a complete data set,” says chief operating officer Andy Bain. “By introducing this new methodology, we can now assist our customers with ongoing pipeline integrity management, identifying the true risk of a feature, and enabling the correct prioritization of maintenance."

Using ultrasonic technology ensures precise, direct measurement of dents with depth resolution down to 0.1 mm (0.004 in). System upgrades will be available for customers during the first quarter of 2018.
