Steel Fabrication Association Appoints New Staff Members

The Steel Tank Institute/Steel Plate Fabricators Association (STI/SPFA) (Lake Zurich, Illinois, USA) announced three new team members to its staff to fill voids from completed and planned retirements.

In August 2017, David Reed joined the association’s staff as controller, filling a role left vacant when 29-year company veteran Kevin Kroll retired last spring. Reed, who is a certified public accountant, has more than 20 years of experience in accounting and finance, predominantly with service and construction businesses in the oil and gas industry.

Meanwhile, Katie Bruce was appointed communications manager in March 2018, replacing Noel Zak. Zak retired in March after serving as membership and communications manager for the organization since January 2011. Bruce joins the team with almost 10 years of association experience, most recently serving as director of marketing and communications for a separate trade association.

Finally, Steve Pollock was hired as manager of technical services and will start in May 2018. Pollock replaces Grainawi, who is retiring after 28 years with the organization. Grainawi most recently served as director of technical services, and she will continue to work with the organization until June 2018 to make the transition as smooth as possible.

Pollock is relocating from Virginia, where he has served as senior petroleum facility inspector with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (Richmond, Virginia, USA) for the past 20 years. His leadership experience includes training owners and operators in underground storage tank and aboveground storage tank operations, maintenance, and records handling to ensure regulatory compliance. Pollock has also served on several STI committees to update standards, testing, and recommended practices.

“We are confident with Steve’s knowledge and background that he can be an instant contributor to the organization and the industry,” says Wayne Geyer, an executive vice president for the association. “We are very sad to see Lorri go, but hope that her presence during the transition will help Steve move confidently into his new role.”
