The NACE International Institute announced that Cynthia O’Malley has been named executive director of the Master Painters Institute (MPI) (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada). MPI is dedicated to the establishment of quality, performance, and sustainable coatings standards.

According to the two organizations, O’Malley brings extensive experience and expertise in business management, protective coatings testing, standards development of both industrial and commercial coatings, and asset protection.

“After bringing MPI under the umbrella of the NACE Institute in 2017, we experienced growing demand for the organization’s expertise from both the commercial and industrial paint markets,” says Helena Seelinger, executive director of the NACE International Institute. “We needed someone with an established track record for business leadership and a strong grasp of the coatings industry—we found that and more in Cynthia.”

In this new role within the NACE Institute, O’Malley will focus on business development, building relationships with specifiers and paint manufacturers, meeting global and industrial market needs, and upgrading the existing key product areas of testing/standards and training.

“I look forward to joining the team at NACE by embracing the leadership opportunity at MPI,” O’Malley says. “I was fortunate to be involved in establishing the MPI United States laboratory testing program and have been a member of NACE for decades. NACE has been helpful to me throughout my career, and I am excited to be a part of an organization with such an esteemed history of industry service and leadership.”

O’Malley joins NACE after more than 20 years with KTA-Tator, Inc. (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA), where she has served as vice president and professional services group manager since 2016. O’Malley has also served in core leadership roles in the NACE International and SSPC: The Society for Protective Coatings (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA) associations.
