Historic St. Paul Manufacturer Releases Corrosion Resistance Database

St. Paul Foundry (St. Paul, Minnesota, USA), a manufacturer of brass, bronze, and aluminum cast components, has launched a new online corrosion resistance database for copper-based castings. This online tool will enable casting designers to identify and compare over 3,500 combinations of alloys and corrosive chemicals.

While many casting designers recognize the value of brass and bronze castings for highly corrosive applications, they may not know which alloy is right for their particular project, explains the Foundry’s Engineering Manager, James Hartigan. But with the Foundry’s online database, they can “quickly evaluate the available choices…[and] use the alloy property comparator on the same web page to see the physical properties of the alloy. It’s a quick, easy way to streamline the alloy selection workflow.”

Users of the database can design a casting that offers the ideal property type, such as corrosion and wear resistance, and property name. The database also compares castings in order to help users determine which product is best suited to certain industrial or environmental conditions.

Founded in 1869, this 150-year old company has AS9100D:2016 and ISO 9001:2015 certification, which are both used by aviation, space, and defense organizations to produce and deliver safe a diverse line of products while reducing costs. With these standards in place, the Foundry is able to provide aerospace quality castings to a variety of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) markets that includes aerospace, naval, oil and gas, and electric generation.
