Surface Treatment Business Adds Automotive Paint Detackification Unit

The surface treatment global business of the coatings division of BASF (Ludwigshafen, Germany), operating under the Chemetall brand, closed its acquisition of the automotive paint detackification business of Polymer Ventures, Inc. (Charleston, South Carolina, USA).

The deal includes all Galaxy Chemical Corp. (Charleston, South Carolina, USA) shares.

According to the company, paint detackification is a process used to capture and neutralize paint overspray. It complements the brand’s surface treatment products, which are designed to prepare metal surfaces for the painting process and ensure proper coating adhesion.

The deal culminates a lengthy partnership between the two organizations. According to a news release, the purchase should benefit customers by streamlining the combined supply chain; enhancing service through the organizations’ mutual commitment to meeting technical requirements with expanded in-field representation and industry specialists; new products through global research and development resources; and stronger manufacturing and processing capabilities.

Through this acquisition, Chemetall says it is now able to offer a complete system with a technically advanced and complementary product portfolio.
