International Coatings Organization Rebrands Itself

On August 1, the International Paint and Printing Ink Council (IPPIC) announced that it had changed the name of its organization to the World Coatings Council. The IPPIC was formed in 1992 to improve communication and coordinate international policy issues facing the paint and printing ink industries.

According to the newly named World Coatings Council, the rebranding “reflects the organization’s enhanced focus on coatings globally.” With that in mind, the council will engage with international bodies such as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in order to establish itself as the premier authority in the global coatings industry.

“Through its renewed identity, the World Coatings Council remains committed to all of the coatings industry and its member associations worldwide,” says Andy Doyle, president of the World Coatings Council.

In a press release announcing the name change, the World Coatings Council laid out its agenda as follows: represent the coatings industry on key international issues; monitor and communicate issues of importance to the coatings industry; promote product stewardship and environmental responsibility through implementation of principles and practices by coatings companies and associations on a worldwide basis; develop policies and positions on issues of common interest to the participating organizations; and serve as technical expert for coatings and printing inks industries before the United Nations and related organizations.

The council added that it will host a forum to promote information exchange and cooperation on issues and priorities pertaining to the global coatings industry. Its membership is comprised of members representing associations from various countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, EU, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
