Heat treatment and specialist thermal processing services provider Bodycote (Macclesfield, United Kingdom) announced that it is building a new facility in Elgin, Illinois, USA.

According to the company, the purpose-built facility has been designed as a replacement for Bodycote’s aging facility in Melrose Park, Illinois, USA.

The Elgin facility is scheduled to be operational in June 2020, and it will support manufacturing supply chains in the U.S. Midwest region. The Melrose Park facility will be closed once the transfer of customers’ work has been completed.

Bodycote says it continues to invest in acquiring, updating, and building new facilities with new capacity and more operationally efficient services. The new Elgin facility is part of this ongoing strategy to provide the optimal capabilities, mix, and geographical network to serve customers.

“Our investment in the new facility enables us to expand our capacity and improve our ability to deliver high-quality heat treatment capabilities to our customers,” says Tom Gibbons, president of the company’s North American classical heat treatment business.

Through classical heat treatment and specialist technologies, including hot isostatic pressing, Bodycote says it aims to improve the properties of metals and alloys and extend the life of vital components for industry. In all, the company has more than 70 facilities in North America.
