New Protective Marine Coating Available in United States, Canada

PPG Industries (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA), a global supplier of paints, coatings, and specialty materials, has launched a new protective marine coating for the U.S. and Canada markets. Dubbed NOVAGUARD 810 ER, this high-performance coating offers fast application times while protecting fuel tanks, ballast tanks, and the internal and external superstructures of tugs and barges.

With its one-coat, direct-to-metal formulation, NOVAGUARD 810 ER can be applied easily with superior edge retention and a smooth finish. This two-component, solvent-free, amine rapid-cured novolac epoxy coating offers a true high build of 20 to 40 mils, with a wet film thickness of more than 50 mils without curtaining, sagging, or running. In addition, its optically active pigment technology enables non-destructive ultraviolet light holiday detection.

Despite the competitiveness of the North American commercial marine market, PPG’s latest high-performance coating is poised to make an impact, claims Al Kaminsky, PPG’s marine manager, protective and marine coatings, U.S. and Canada. “PPG NOVAGUARD 810 ER passes on the advantages of cost savings and high performance to customers, enabling them to work their assets harder while being assured of extended service life,” says Kaminsky.

Along with NOVAGUARD 810 ER, PPG has also released SIGMASHIELD 880, a multipurpose, surface-tolerant epoxy for use in extreme marine environments. SIGMASHIELD 880 will be available for offshore infrastructure and support vessels in the U.S. and Canada.
