Coatings Company Secures Multi-Year Military Contract

PPG (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA) was recently awarded a five-year, $78 million contract with U.S. Navy Military Sealift Command (MSC), an organization based in Norfolk, Virginia, USA that provides sealift and ocean transportation for all U.S. military services and government agencies. Under the terms of the deal, PPG will supply coatings, solvents, and technical services to the MSC fleet, which includes about 125 ships.

Among the products PPG will deliver to MSC drydocking facilities: PSX polysiloxane coatings for exposed steel surfaces; AMERCOAT 240 epoxy coatings for external surfaces and tanks; and SIGMAGLIDE biocide-free fouling release coatings for ships, installations, and seawater intakes. In addition, PPG technical services specialists will be on hand to offer their product selection and application expertise to MSC.

“This is a major win for the PPG marine team and showcases the value PPG can bring to customers through its broad range of products and deep expertise,” says Juanjo Ardid, PPG vice president, protective and marine coatings, U.S. and Canada. “By leveraging our global scale and people with expertise in markets around the world, we can partner with customers to deliver value, innovation and practical solutions that make a difference.”

The new five-year contract ensures that PPG will continue supplying products and services to MSC as it has for over 10 years. “We are committed to supporting the U.S. Navy MSC and we’re proud of the trust that they continue to place in us,” says Scott Doering, PPG sales director, protective and marine coatings, U.S.
