Adhesive and Sealants Organizations Revise Classification Manual

The Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) (Alexandria, Virginia, USA), Fédération Européenne des Industries de Colles et Adhésifs (FEICA) (Brussels, Belgium), and China Adhesives and Tape Industry Association (CAITA) (Beijing, China) have partnered to update and harmonize industry terms, definitions, and market segmentation. These three adhesive and sealants trade associations have released their updates in the 2021 edition of the ASC-CATIA-FEICA Adhesive and Sealants Classification Manual.

In 2020-2021 ASC, FEICA, and CATIA collaborated on an industry reference guide containing definitions, segments, and key applications of adhesive and sealant technologies, families, and markets. This document updates and replaces the previous classification manual, which was last published in 2012. Readers of industry market reports from any of the three associations will now be able to refer to updated information and compare industry market data between North America, the European Union, and Asia.

“Working with both FEICA and CATIA provided us with a global view of terms, segmentation, and key applications and chemistry types,” says Steve Duren, ASC’s managing director of membership and industry programs. “We think the harmonization of terminology is important and we believe we will likely again revise and update this document on a five-year cycle to ensure technology and markets have a common understanding across the key global regions.”

“The publication of this updated manual demonstrates the strong bond between ASC, CATIA and FEICA, and benefits the global adhesive and sealant industry and its stakeholders,” says Kristel Ons, secretary general of FEICA. “The revision includes the latest innovations in technologies and applications used. The EU Green Deal will be a driver for enhanced innovation, especially in construction, electronics, packaging, automotive and many other markets. The updated classification manual is an excellent tool to harmonize market data on adhesives and sealants, allowing companies to have comparable data for sound business decisions.”

“This updated manual is very important for the adhesive and sealant industry,” says Michael Yang, secretary general of CATIA. “It not only guides us to understand the new application progress of the adhesive and sealant industry, but also helps us correctly understand the downstream application segments.”

“In recent years,” continues Yang, “the strategic emerging application markets continue to expand, such as automobile, new energy, prefabricated building, electronic industry, green packaging, etc., which have brought huge business opportunities for adhesive and sealant enterprises. We are glad to see that the publication of this manual is at the right time.”
