Strategic Materials (Houston, Texas) announced the launch of an improved air blast abrasive product, TruAbrasives, made from 100% recycled glass. The product is expected to be available in April 2017.

The crushed glass abrasive was developed specifically for performance and quality through extensive blast and laboratory testing, as well as operational investments in equipment and processes.

The product should be known for worker health and environmental benefits, just as its New Age Blast Media predecessor was for many years. In addition, crushed glass abrasives do not pose the risks of free crystalline silica and toxic metal exposure.

“We’ve always believed crushed glass abrasive is the future for the surface preparation industry, and that’s why we continue to invest in it,” CEO Denis Suggs says.

The product is expected to phase out its predecessor throughout the year.
