U.S. Coatings Manufacturer Hosts Corrosion Seminar for Rail Market

Coatings manufacturer Carboline Co. (St. Louis, Missouri) recently hosted a corrosion seminar for the rail market at the company's research, development, and innovation (RD&I) facility in Brentwood, Missouri.

Held in September 2017, the free, two-day seminar covered topics specific to the rail market such as commonly used coating and lining systems, surface preparation, application, problem resolution, and repairs.

This corrosion seminar is the only rail-specific school offered in the industry, according to the company, which notes that it is next scheduled for April 10-11, 2018.

At the recent session, the manufacturer's technical experts presented to over 30 attendees and offered a hands-on experience with several coatings. Attendees not only received education specific to their industry, but were also able to apply products firsthand and tour the facility.

“I made some serious strides in my understanding and continuing personal development in coatings and linings,” says Trevor Heard, field service manager for the customer support and warranty business at TrinityRail (Dallas, Texas). “I found the topics and material covered very interesting, and it really helped explain many observations that I've already seen in the industry.”

Several of these corrosion seminars will be hosted in 2018, according to the developer.

“Being a valuable resource to our customers is a focus we have in providing a high level of service,” says Matt McDonald, director of rail at Carboline. “We are pleased to have our customers spend a couple days with us to increase their industry knowledge and meet some of our technical service and RD&I staff.”
