Coatings manufacturer Carboline (St. Louis, Missouri, USA) recently announced the release of Pyrocrete 341 as a next-generation solution for cementitious passive fire protection.

According to the company, it offers the petrochemical industry a “three for one” advantage by providing three major features in one product. These attributes include excellent durability, extensive certification with industry standards, and enhanced application properties.

"Carboline is excited about the release of Pyrocrete 341,” says Jim Rippe, executive vice president of fireproofing/engineering sales at Carboline. “This product provides advantages to owners, engineering firms, and applicators.”

According to Carboline, the product offers a wide range of benefits for both applicators in the field and those in a shop environment.

“An extremely high film build and competitive thicknesses result in significant cost savings for the applicator,” Rippe says. “For shop applications, the ability to build 1.5 inches (38.1 mm) in one pass, high durability, and quick set times provide the fireproofing shop owner with significant throughput advantages over competitive cementitious products.”

Pyrocrete 341 is described as a high-density, exterior-grade cementitious fireproofing product designed for maximum protection and performance. It is UL 1709 rated for up to four hours of hydrocarbon fire protection, along with 30 minutes to two hours of jet fire resistance. The product rapidly develops strength and provides strong durability for onsite or offsite applications.

“Pyrocrete 341 performs exceptionally well in cyclic conditions,” says Jeff Anderson, vice president of research, development, and innovation. “Exposed to cryogenic conditions, followed by jet fire, hose stream, explosion, and hydrocarbon fire testing as a cycle. These elevated testing protocols ensure our customers the ultimate durability and performance.”

According to the company, Pyrocrete 341 was developed to strengthen Carboline's existing cementitious fireproofing portfolio. It is manufactured using high-quality raw materials, with strict quality assurance and quality control under UL’s Follow-Up Services protocols. Further technical details are available at the manufacturer’s website.
